Acer v3-572gThe Acer V3-572G is now selling for $550

Comes with GT 840M GPU and I5-4210U CPU which provides good 3D performance for $550, allowing you to play many games on medium-high settings@720p or medium settings@1080p. 8GB DDR3 RAM is enough for most people and you won’t have to think about adding more probably.

The 1TB HDD might be a little slow, but you can replace it with something faster. Anyway, it should be ok.

The screen is probably of low quality, but I’m sure you can replace it easily as it is an eDP display (probably) like in the V5-552G case. A good 720p/1080p IPS level display will cost you around $80-$90 tops, like the B156HAN01.X (for example)

Battery performance is good according to users over the web (check newegg feedback) and you’ll have around 5-6 hours the least.

So, for $500 it is a very good deal. Another cheaper model for $380 is also available with AMD A8-5557M and Radeon 8750M – might have a bit lower 3D performance, but a very good deal by itself.

Right now I’ve got an Alienware m14x with a 555m. I’ve used it for casual gaming and school work. Battery is completely shot. Would this provide similar gaming abilities?

The GT 840M should be as good or better, but not a lot better.
If the only problem is the battery, then you might want just to replace the battery itself?

$70-100 for new battery and there’s a 50/50 chance it’s the battery or the motherboard recognizing the battery charge (according to forum posts). I’m probably going to just get a decent gaming laptop for games and my streaming/elgato.

oh, your laptop doesn’t work at all?? I thought only the battery is done.. no?

It’s doesn’t recognize when the battery is charging appropriately. According to my reading either the battery is done or the motherboard is messed up (will not see the battery needs to charge). Laptop works as long as it’s plugged into an outlet.

oh, I see. Maybe you can get one from Amazon and return it for a refund in case it doesn’t help?
For $550, you can get this one, but don’t expect stellar changes or something – lower weight, around the same 3D performance, better battery probably and the option to change the display. But I’m not sure the keyboard is as good, for example.

Yeah I’m leaning towards a y40 or y50 now.

you can probably sell yours anyway and get some more cash. The Y40 – definitely not that of an upgrade. There is more options up to $800

I’m gonna attempt to swap out the battery to see if that works. Either way I’ll sell and get a nicer one. This is a great site!

Has anyone here upgraded the screen to the B156HAN01.X screen listed in the post?

I’ve done it with some similar laptop: https://www.glj.io/acer-aspire-v5-552g-review-cheap-light-gaming-machine/

It was fairly easy and I’m pretty sure it’s the same thing here
