Acer V3-772G Reviews

[/wptab] [end_wptabset]

The Acer top 17.3″ gaming machine refresh. Comes with a GTX 850M GDDR5 (very close to the 860M), I5-4210M (in this case), 8GB DDR3 and 1080p display. The notebookcheck review shows the throttling issue is of no real concern while gaming, so you get about the optimal performance. The GTX 850M GDDR5 is very close to the GTX 860M with being the same chip with lower core clocks, so you can OC the GTX 850M GDDR5 in case you feel it isn’t enough.

The 1080p screen is quite good, though viewing angles could be better (it’s not an IPS panel). Battery running times are around 3-4 hours for light use, with WiFi on. Temperatures are average and it’s quite quiet.

For $800 for this I5 model, I don’t see any real competitors in the 17.3″ realm. The Clevo W370SS costs around $950-$1000 w/o an OS, but with a 860M and also weighs around 0.5kg more. Even compared to 15.6″ laptops, it is quite a bargain as most competitors are not as fast for $800 and the only one is the Y510p for around $850 with 755M SLI.

Bottom line, it’s a good deal. You could shove in some $100 250GB mSata drive too.

Hello junky. I am not sure whether to get the lenovo y50 70 15’6″ with gtx 860m(you did a great review on) or the acer one here. I want the laptop for gaming on medium at least for next gen games (assassin creed unity or the upcoming gta V) and some graphics software like max or after effects. The lenovo is at 8000 swedish krona and acer is 7500. What do you recommend?

Thanks for your awesome reviews.

Hi junky. Very sorry for the late reply.

There is proshop.se and dustin.se. i have been looking in them for good gaming laptops for under 8000 kr and the two mentioned above were all i could find.

Pricerunner.se could be also used to check on prices.

Merry christmas to you junky and everyone. :-).

you too!

doesn’t seem like you can get a GTX 860M or 850M GDDR5 according to these sites. Do you have any other site?

That isodd. There is in fact a good number of gaming laptops on the first two websites i posted that has gtx 850m – 860m or higher. Here is a link to the acer v3 772g : http://www.proshop.se/Barbar-Dator/Acer-Aspire-V3-772G-2449334.html?utm_source=pricerunner&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=pricesite

You could also try netonnnet.se.

1. damn, I tried to use the search for “850M” and it didn’t find it – it really is hard for me to find anything in these sites. Tried to go for the VN7-591G, G551JM or N551JM and Y50 – none under 8000 2. The V3-772G is nice, but screen isn’t great and I feel like you could do better IF 3. You could order, for example, the VN7-591G from Czech Alza.CZ / Germany or the N551JM from Italy Amazon : http://www.amazon.de/Acer-Edition-VN7-591G-590D-Notebook-i5-4210H/dp/B00LUJ55T6/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1419604960&sr=8-4&keywords=vn7-591g As you are part of the EU empire, you shouldn’t pay another import taxes or VAT – just… Read more »

A good idea really to get from another country and i will ask if there was tax or not.

I will come back surely if any questions pop up.

Meanwhile Thanks for the input on the screen quality and overall review on lenovo y50 70-you pretty much answered all my questions about it. Keep up the awesome work :-).

I’ve talked to Amazon Italy, asking about shipping to Germany. They said that they will deduce the Italian VAT and add the German VAT, and that’s all, meaning it will cost around the same, even if you order it.

I don’t know if it works even if there is no Amazon service at your part of the world, but better ask them – there is a contact option on their site, and you can email or phone.

Well i probably better stick to buying from sweden only as i do not want to complicate things as I am new in Sweden. B

I found on netonnet.se an ASUS ROG G551JM-CN104HA. Core i7 + 860m + IPS 15’6″ display for 8000 kr. I think this a better deal than Acer or Lenovo. What do you think?

Thx for the extra help :-D.

yea, I think it’s better – excellent display and performance as others with GTX 860M
That’s a nice price compared to the other prices I’ve seen

Well this is embarrassing, i rechecked ASUS ROG G551JM-CN104HA on netonnet.se and it turns out its actuslly ~ 10,000 kr and not 8000 as i initially said. Probably i didnt have my glasses on or they made an incredible one-day sale on christmas :-.

Either way, i guess i am back to the only good option for 8,000 and that is the lenovo y50-70( i7 + 860m)

But I found one N551JM for 9000
Y50 is a good option if you are willing to replace the screen, as you already know. The N551JM is a nice option with a very good display out of the butt and also, has another SATA port.

Yea i read your review on how easy to replace lenovo screen but i would not be able to do it since it will probably void the warranty, right?

you could replace it back if warranty is needed

I’m too busy : I’ll soon make some automatic system

Anyway, you’ll have to look elsewhere – what are you looking for? what games do you have in mind?

A gaming laptop that can handle most new games in ultra (or at least high) under $800. I would also want it to have expandable memory (up to 16 GB at least). I would also prefer a big screen (17.3″) but I’d be fine even with a 15.6″. Battery backup does not matter, and neither does the hard disk size. I’d be glad if you could give me a few suggestions.

No good option currently except the Eurocom Electra 2.0 and HP 15t quad slim. I’d wait with it

Yeah I’ve been looking at the 15t too. I can wait till halfway through November because my brother (who’s staying in the US) has to get it delivered to him before December 24 because that’s when he’ll be coming back to India.

Reply to  Junky

well ok your right i shoudlve been a bit more specific, I would be streaming using OBS and the best compatible(compatible is the key word because I cant go overboard I will be satisfied if I have a decent fps) N64-capture card combos the comp can handle smoothly and fast.

also money isnt an issue I honeslty have nooooo idea what comp is recommeded for the best possible output at a low reasonable price. Thanks for the reply

Junky

Reply to  ted

well, if you are using a capture card, that mean it will do most of the hard work and you only need a laptop for streaming. Am I right?

I would then say that you mainly need a laptop with a reasonable CPU (I5 or even better I7) and a good WiFi card if you are using WiFi for this.

Depending on the game, you might also need a good enough GPU. What emulator you are going to use?

Streaming software: OBS
Emulator for N64: Project64 is generally the standard as far as I know. Unless you know of something better.
Well generally I will be playing the 3d old school platformers such as rayman 2 the great escape, zelda games, streaming my xbox games, some of my gamecube games. I am quite new to this so any info is really helpful. My prob is when it comes to buying a gaming laptop, its a shot in the dark. I have know grips on what the crazy rig is or what is necessary for the bear minimum. Thanks!
