The Dell XPS 15 9550 is Dell’s premium multimedia laptop. It is rather thin and lightweight at 1.76kg, but also sports high performance hardware in the form of an I5-6300HQ Skylake CPU and the Nvidia GTX 960M 2GB GDDR5 GPU, along an 1080p IPS display and 1TB HDD + 32GB mSSD cache drive which helps a lot to improve the performance. Moreover, the 9550 comes with a 3×3 802.11ac Wifi card and Thunderbolt 3 USB 3.0 connection port which can trasmit mDP signal, USB 3.1 and PCIe x4 v.3.

Still seen no in-depth review, but the XPS 15.6″ series has been always pretty good. It remains to be seen how good are the thermals, but I’m pretty sure that the build quality and keyboard will be good and with the low weight and thin frame there is no argue. In comparison, the Acer VN7-592G is around 0.5kg more in weight.

How’d you get the price down? I’m seeing $1199. Thanks

oh, derp… thanks!

Most of the reviews are for the i7 4k version. But even with the i7 there don’t seem to be any heat problems. Tough choice, I’ve seen one in person and it is a very attractive machine. The 4k was very, VERY, glossy with annoying reflection, but wow. The downside to this i5 model is that to make space for the HD they made the battery smaller, though i5 and FHD display will help with run times.

Not sure there aren’t heat problems – the chassis might get hot
Didn’t get you on the battery an HD screen thing

Sorry if I wasn’t clear. I’ve watched all the youtube reviews of the i7 model and I haven’t seen anyone reporting heat issues. They mostly seem to be surprised that it does so well with thermals. The battery thing is like this: the models that have ssd are m.2 so in these cases they stuck a larger battery inside. In the models with a hdd dell put a smaller battery. It’s in the dell specs.
