A nice 10% off discount on the Eurocom Electra 2.0 15.6″ gaming laptop which is based on the Clevo W650SJ (like the Sager NP6658). The W650SJ main advantage is the combination of an IPS display and good gaming performance of GTX 850

The gaming performance delivered by the GTX 850M and I5-4210M is excellent and generally around the GTX 765M performance, only for much lower power consumption.

The Electra 2 has around 4-5 hours of battery under light use. Another feature is the mSata connection port besides the default 2.5″ HDD/SSD bay.

According to my tests, under full load of Prime95 + Furmark, the I5-4200M and GTX 850M are kept around 70-75C tops, which is quite good.

This deal is especially cost effective if you can arrange for an OS (like students and through other programs). For $735 you get a combination the otherwise not available currently with an IPS display and a reasonable gaming performance. It does not have the best performance / price ratio compared to other machines, but if you want to limit yourself to around this price of $700-$750, that’s a good option. The upcoming GTX 950M doesn’t seem to be better or significantly better, so that’s a good option. You might as well wait with the purchase too.

BTW, you can remove the HDD and DVD and reduce the price even more! call them and ask for it.

* Another note : you can pay in CAD and it might be lower in price for you in USD currency.

Just a note to buyers: Seriously think about what Junky said about paying in Canadian Dollars. The Electra cost $899 CAD, and that is less than $720 American right now at the time of this writing, while Eurocom charges $817 American for it.. As a result, this may be got at a very nice price by paying in CAD. Before doing so, make sure of any hidden fees, other costs, etc.

I’m confused, you posted this today (9/11/14) but the discussion posts are 3 to 4 months old? Or is Disqus simply stamping wrong dates on every post?

Any idea if there will be a GTX 850M DDR5 available ? Or maybe even GTX 860M ? I would pay $70 extra for GTX 850M DDR5 without the IPS display. I doubt the 850M DDR3 is anywhere near GTX 765M DDR5 and if there was an option to replace the video card this laptop would be an amazing deal.

a GTX 850M GDDR5 is practically a GTX 860M so it is hard to believe.. BUT, the second iteration of Maxwell GPUs might bring a GTX 855M or something like that. Maybe it will be the Nvidia 900 series though.

Isn’t the screen currently available an IPS panel? (“15.6″ FHD 1920×1080; Matte; RGB IPS LED Backlit LVDS Interface” is what it says on the specs).

I missed this one – sorry. The current configuration includes a non-IPS display. Maybe the specs are because they haven’t update it
