The Nvidia GTX 1080 Max-Q is a high top-tier gaming GPU, based on the Nvidia Pascal architecture and the GP104 core. The MQ version is vastly limited in power consumption vs the regular GTX 1080 and requires around 90-100W which is no more than the GTX 1070, this results in the 1070 being faster in some heavy 3D games or the 1080MQ is faster, but insignificantly. The advantage in these cases is having a lower TDP GPU, meaning less heat.
At this point, no benchmarks are found. Information is based on NBC tests.
The Pascal based GPUs, are about to be replaced with next generation Nvidia GPUs, starting at the end of 2018. I would suggest waiting until then, unless it can be bought for a significantly low price.
