The Nvidia GTX 965M is a 900 series’ top-midrange gaming GPU, based on the Nvidia Maxwell (II) architecture and the GM204 core and utilizing a GDDR5 RAM. At its time, the GTX 965M could be found in laptops for as low as $800 with a typical price of around $900-$1000. The 965M was accompanied by the GTX 965M Ti later on, closing the big gap a little more between the 965M and the 970M.
Gaming performance is adequate for high to very high graphics settings @ 1080p in games of its time (2016). Compared to the current Pascal offerings (2018), performance in heavy 3D games is trailing the GTX 1050 by around 20-30%, depending on the game. The Pascal 1050 model replaces the 960M/965M/965M Ti segment in practice. GTX 1050 equipped laptops can be found for $550-$600 and GTX 1050 Ti laptops can be found for as low as $580-$600 from time to time.
