HP Envy 15 SlimThe new HP Envy 15 Slim for $725 (free shipping) Haven’t seen good reviews yet and quality is unknown, but the 3D power is there with GTX 850M and an I7-4712HQ. I would bet that this is the 850M DDR3 and not GDDR5 otherwise they would probably have written it.

Anyway, for $775 it has a good performance / price ratio, though not as the V3-772G with GDDR5 (link) The 1080p screen quality is unknown, but other reader with a non-slim version of HP Envy 15 said it is not that good. I’m not sure if it applies here too.

I think there is a good chance it uses an eDP compatible panel and it is replaceable, but better wait for more sources. It is rather slim, but not that lightweight at 2.3kg. Backlit keyboard is also included So, overall, unless you pay some extra big tax, this is a very good option for those who look for a 15.6″ gaming laptop in these price ranges.

Again, not the fastest under $800, but it is a good option for those who want it all packed without the need to install OS and want the more future proof screen replacement option. Also, it is rather thin

hey, i just found that this comes with GDDR5 gpu. i contacted hp customer service via email. it was like this, ” ‘Its graphics card comes with GDDR5 memory type. It is one of the first cards based on Nvidia’s new Maxwell architecture.”
i don’t get the ‘one of the first cards’ thing. is that suppose to be good?

Are you sure it’s a GDDR5?

i can assure that i received an email from them saying it is a GDDR5 gpu but i don’t know whether they told the truth or not. but they won’t lie, will they?

I can assure you I believe you! but that doesn’t mean they are professionals. They might be wrong
Also, I remember that someone asked them and they told him it’s a DDR3 one..

I’m really not sure

Moreover, if the V15 Nitro will be here for prices similar to Czech, it should be a killer (I5 version) for gamers

yeah they might be wrong. it’s a shame that we can’t rely on them :/
yeah i’m waiting for the v nitro but i’m not too sure of its price, so i’m looking for some good alternatives! 🙂

i was thinking of getting it earlier but, now it has a $850 price tag in hp online store so i would probably wait for another couple of months before buying anything.

oh sorry, it got identified as a spam for some reason..

but generally, it’s better to have a generally faster GPU than a slower one with more VRAM..

It looks like DDR3. There is also a bit more about the screen here. The dealbreaker for me though is the possible lack of mSATA.

yes, it’s a DDR3. It’s fast, though – you’ll get a good performance
However, the V3-772G for $800 should be faster

The I7 can make up for the FPS difference. The GPU is much more important in this case of gaming in almost any case

can the quad core in hp make up the difference in the fps?

The coupon doesn’t apply unless the laptop is >= $900. Unfortunately, they leave no room to customize this particular model, so pushing the price above $899.99 is impossible.

The HP Envy 15t (not slim) with similar specs goes for $989. Minus the $175 = $814. Tack on a $50+ tax 🙁

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I tried to apply the coupon to that one, but it doesn’t work. The price has to be at least $900 for it to apply, but it’s $899.99. It’s ridiculous.

it’s strange. All the coupons I used were good for the $X.99 price, not rounded up. Also, there is a new coupon – HPBTS20 – that should work

I suggest you chat or call them..

Gave them a call. They said it doesn’t apply because after the “$50 instant savings” it’s priced at $849.99. HP is full of it.

Sorry for spamming, but I just applied the august175 coupon to a $749.99 (after $150.00 instant savings) and it worked. They are full of lies!

I actually thought about the larger 17.3″ V3-772G (sidebar) – GTX 850M GDDR5 for $800, good keyboard, relatively good display..

comparing to the V3-772G? 1. The GPU will be much more pronounced in this case, for gaming. You’ll DEFINITELY get higher performance with the V3 2. This is an I7 **U** CPU. This version is actually a low power I5, it doesn’t have 8 cores like a non-ULV (ultra low voltage) I7 CPU, so in fact you won’t get any benefit in terms of performance. It also tends to get throttled under heavy load. If you are ok with a 17.3″ machine, then the V3 would be my suggestion. The only major disadvantage is that I think you wouldn’t be… Read more »
