GT60 /w GTX 870M (previous gen.)
For $1200 you get a lot of power and by far the most cost effective gaming laptop compared to others with 970M or less, if you need an OS.
The main drawback of the GT60 is obviously its weight/size – hard to call this one a “portable” gaming laptop and traveling with it in your backpack or something like that is not practical for most people going by foot. Moreover, the build quality is good but finish and looks lack.
The advantages of the GT60 are very good performance/price ratio, good thermals and minimal throttling, good replaceable display, replaceable CPU (you’d be able to replace it to Broadwell) and relatively good sound quality.
Overall, if you do no need a too portable solution, this is a good option. I suspect that the GT60 with 970M GPU is considerably quieter than the previous generation GT60 as the 970M is much more energy efficient.
