MSI GE70 Reviews

The MSI GE70 Apache Pro-061 (Amazon link) is a 17.3″ midrange gaming machine. It’s not a new model, but for $720 it’s quite powerful and cost effective. You get a GTX 860M performance level with a fast I5-4200H (2.8-3.4GHZ, 47W TDP), 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD and a nice 1080p display (TN panel, average viewing angles, good contrast).

Especially if you are after a 17.3″ model, this is a good option for you. Competitors with GTX 860M and an OS sell for at least $800-$850 and will deliver the same gaming performance in almost any case, as the I5-4200H is fast enough and won’t limit the GTX 860M almost never. Moreover, it’s not as hot, avoiding temperature limitations.

The GE70 case can get hot, but it should be better with an I5 instead of an I7. Throttling while gaming shouldn’t be a big concern either, according to the review with an I7 and considering the fact that this one is using the I5 CPU instead.

Finally, for $720, you could simply resell it in a year (with 1 year warranty left), for almost the same price, I guess, so it’s not that risky of a purchase, if you think you might want to replace it later.

don’t be sad – ashes to ashes, dust to dust. All will be gone soon and suffering will end
But in the meanwhile! where did you buy it from? Amazon?

Looks like it is $799 now. Still not bad, but I’d bet for a few bucks more over the next month or so, something will be available with an i7 quad as they clear out the 8xx cards for the 9xx ones…waiting for that to happen.

Ahh – fantastic! Not sure if dual core would be limiting as opposed to a quad, but this is a serious contender for me now – thanks!

I would say – get it and if you don’t find that it suits your needs, resell it or give to a friend/family.. For $700, it’s a very good performer
